5. SPORTS FOR HEALTHY LIVING PROGRAM

Sports is a very interactive venture that engages the Children and the youth in a positive way.
It uses their excess energy in a more productive way leading to the discovery of each and
every participants’ talent. Sport and sporting activities commits their time and energy which
could otherwise be used to explore other practices harmful to their health. First Bridge Foundation
has developed programs that targets working with schools, religious organizations and local
community groups to promote healthy living and health education to vulnerable children and the youth.
First Bridge Foundations aims at achieving this by providing the youth clubs and groups with balls,
flutes, and other equipment for various sporting activities. We run sports matches, games
activities and interactive health education talks. A supportive environment is fostered for
young people who gain confidence through the enjoyment of team-based sports and activities and mentoring on health education issues.

Our external health facilitators lead sessions that explore a variety of topics relevant to the children including COVID-19, HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections, water borne diseases, drug abuse and major illnesses such as malaria. Sports are played after the health sessions and as separate events to ensure learning occurs in a relaxed and positive environment.Generally, the idea is to promote physical
fitness through various means that may include gymnasium facilities for improved healthy
living.
